LAURIE ELIZABETH AVERRETT Laurie "Elizabeth" Averrett passed away October 8, 2014, at Bethany House in Auburn surrounded by close friends. Elizabeth was born November 21, 1921, and was an only child to the late Alton and Virginia Averrett. She was a proud graduate of Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) in 1945. She went on to have a long 37 year teaching career at Port Arthur Junior High in Port Arthur, Texas. Elizabeth returned to her childhood home in Notasulga in 1981 and was devoted to caring for her ill mother until her death. She was a life-long, committed member of the Notasulga United Methodist Church where she enjoyed serving her Lord with her friends. She was a friend to many and enjoyed life to the utmost. Visitation will be held at Corbitt's Funeral Home in Tuskegee on Thursday, October 9, from 5:00-7:00 P.M., and she will be laid to rest at a graveside memorial on Friday, October 10, at 11:30 A.M. at the Notasulga Town Cemetery on Main Street in Notasulga.
