Valeta Buchholz was born on June 24, 1916 in Monroe Co, Wisconsin. She graduated from Eyota High School, and the Chatfield School of Teaching. She taught in a rural school for two years. Valeta married Stanley J. O'Brien on October 15, 1936. In 1946, they moved to Rochester. Stanley was a Rochester fireman, and died in the line of duty on December 24, 1953.
Valeta is survived by her three children: Mary O'Brien of Rochester, Jerry (Lisa) O'Brien of Rochester, and Julie (Doug) Parry of Minneapolis; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Valeta is preceeded in death by her parents, husband, brother, and sister. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church for many years.
A Funeral Mass is planned for Monday, April 19, 2010 at 2:00pm at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Timothy T. Reker officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery Rochester. Memorials are preferred to the Rochester Fire Department, Lourdes High School, American Cancer Society or donor's choice.
