Mr. S. M. Craven, age 87 years, died at his home near Shiloh, on Tuesday of last week and was buried Wednesday, June 26th at Shiloh, the funeral services being conducted by Rev. Maxwell, of Bowdon.
Mr. Craven was well known to the people of this county and leaves many friends and relatives to mourn his departure.

*I am posting his death date as that which is listed on the tombstone. Newspaper indicates he died on the 25th.

Sam Craven was first married (in 1849( to Louisa Adaline Walden, approximate dates for her are 1828-1863. It is not known where she is buried. They had at least six children.
He then married Rebecca Ann Griffin in 1866. They had eight children.
Rebecca had been married once before to Pierce Sanford Prickett who died in 1864 during the Civil War.

I have received a suggested edit June 2021 as listed below.
S. M. Craven, who states DOB abt 1825 in Fayette County, GA has a CSA pension application on line. He says he enlisted in 1861 in Carroll Co. and served six months in Co. H. of the 2nd GA State Troops. Note on the application says he reenlisted in GA Militia (3 1/2 years total.) He says he was discharged in Atlanta and had been trying to farm. But was having kidney and bladder problems and suffered from partial blindness.
