Effie was born between Dowdy/Saffell, Independence County, Arkansas and Monette in Craighead County, Arkansas in June of 1898 to John S and Loucinda Polston Daggett. She was the only daughter and youngest of four children: Simon Edker, Christopher Columbus, and John Harrison Daggett. Her father passed away when she was less than 2 years old, and her mother passed shortly thereafter. In the 1900 census, she is living with her maternal grandparents in Independence County.

She travelled with her older brother Columbus to Florida where he worked hauling fruits and vegetables and also had an ice truck business. At some point, she signed up for a mail order bride program, through which she met Veni O. Safranek, from St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota, who was to be her first husband. Having lived with relatives in Washington State, he was serving in the military in New Mexico at the time. Their only son Allan G. Safranek, Sr. was born to them in May 1918 at Ft. Bayard there. Through
Veni's service they moved to Key West, Florida, and moved to Hillsborough County, where they divorced in 1932.

Effie remarried Robert J. Brecker of Connecticut on August 16, 1944 . Bob, as he was known, was born 13 June 1890 in Stamford, CT. Veni married Letha Cornell in 1935 and he died April 9, 1949. He is reportedly buried in Pine Hill Cemetery and should have a military marker though I was unable to find it on my previous visit.

Husband Bob died on Sept 8, 1965 in Pinellas County. According to historical data found in the book Florida Cracker Days he was buried at Meadowlawn with his wife Effie. Meadowlawn records indicate that Effie bought two gravesites, but as of 2007, they had no record of his burial at Meadowlawn.

Effie died on April 22, 1978 at her home in New Port Richey, shortly after her only son's wife Myrtle passed way, also in April. Effie is survived by son Allan Safranek and his many descendants, who remain among NPR's active and respected community leaders.
