The second of the sons of Henry & Ellen Day, studied at Santa Clara College in 1891, and showed an early interest in animal husbandry. As did his brothers, he helped operate the Hercules Mine in Burke, Idaho. He also managed their ranch in Osburn, Idaho. Long after his death, a park was named in his honor in Osburn, the Gene Day Park. He took part in several of the other business interests the family had. Their story is told in the book "The Days of the Hercules" by John Fahey. His health was always a struggle between partial paralysis and Bright's Disease (referring to a chronic kidney disease, though the term 'brights disease' is no longer used). He died in Sacred Heart Hospital, Spokane, Washington. His brother Harry L. Day and other Day family members are buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane, but the location of his remains are uncertain - possibly there also. For more information about Gene and the rest of the mining industry family of Day's, see the University of Idaho's website at: www.http://www.lib.uidaho.edu/special-collections
