Eugene Clarence Havens, age 89, of Carilton Assisted Living of Asheboro, formerly of Meadowbrook Road, died Friday, March 2, 2007, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 8, 2007, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 133 N. Church St., Asheboro, with Dr. John S. Rogers and Koy Lee Haywood officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park.
Mr. Havens was born in Selmer, Tenn., and raised in Oklahoma before moving to North Carolina in the early 1940s. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force in WWII and a member of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Havens was a plumber by trade and retired from Randolph County as the first county plumbling inspector. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Madge Sparks Havens.

He is survived by one daughter, Ellen H. Curlee and her husband, John, of Greensboro; two sons, Charles E. Havens and Frank M. Havens, both of Asheboro; five grandchildren, Matt Curlee and his wife, Alisa, of Rochester, N.Y., Cory Havens and his wife, Ashley, of Asheboro, Brandon Havens and his wife, Karen, of Abilene, Texas, Sarah Ireland and her husband, Jared, of Asheboro and Allen Hevens of Asheboro; brother-in-law, Charles Sparks and his wife, Margaret, of Belmont; and sister-in-law, Gaynelle Curlee of Stanley.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 7, 2007, from 6-9 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 133 N. Church St., Asheboro, N.C. 27203.
