Josephus Costantine Ansley was born in Milledgeville, Baldwin County, Georgia, on February 11, 1836. He married America Frances Singleton on October 12, 1859. Josephus enlisted in Company C, Seventeenth Calvary of the Confederate Army in 1861. He later drew a pension for his service.
