Barbara Jean Abboud, age 87, of Eau Claire passed away April 4, 2010, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.
Barbara was born Feb. 26, 1923, in Minneapolis, Minn., daughter of George and Hazel (Clemens) Donaldson. Jean was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, and was among those who marched in the funeral procession of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1945. Barbara was united in marriage to Joseph Abboud on June 20, 1946, at St. Patrick's Church in Eau Claire. She worked as a secretary for her husband, who was an optometrist in Rice Lake.
Barbara loved animals - especially her dogs. She was a member of Fortnightly Club and League of Women Voters; and during the presidential campaign of 1960, Barbara hosted a tea for Jacqueline Kennedy in Rice Lake. She loved reading, visiting the library, painting, knitting, embroidering and doing cross-stitch.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rice Lake.
Barbara is survived by her son, Jeff (Sue) Abboud of Eau Claire; grandson, Joe (Amanda) Abboud of Woodbury, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Jean Donaldson of Waupaca and Ruth Hogan of Boston, Mass.; nieces and nephews in Wisconsin and Massachusetts; other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph, on Nov. 27, 1982; and brother, Robert Donaldson.
A memorial service for Barbara Abboud will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10, at Syverson Lutheran Home chapel, 816 Porter Ave., Eau Claire.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Rice Lake.
The family would like to thank the staff at Grace Edgewood and Syverson Lutheran Home for the loving care they have given to Barb since 2001.
Memorials may be directed to Grace's Garden and Chaplaincy Services at Syverson Lutheran Home.
