Jacob Edward Greenholtz, 75, 423 East Main Street, Westminster, Spanish American War veteran, died of a heart condition Thursday morning, April 9, 1953, in the University Hospital, Baltimore, where he was taken the previous afternoon in the Westminster Fire Department ambulance.

Mr. Greenholtz, who retired after more than 20 years of service as a guard at the Maryland State Penitentiary, Baltimore; at one time operated a restaurant at the corner of Main Street and Longwell Avenue. He was a member of the old Company H Maryland National Guard, The Westminster Loyal Order of the Moose, and the Carroll Rod and Gun Club.

His parents were the late Samuel and Emma Riegle Greenholtz. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lillie Schultz Greenholtz; two daughters, Mrs. Ralph K. Royer, Sr. of Westminster, a patient in the University Hospital, and Mrs. Alberta Schwartz, Baltimore; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Sullivan, Hanover, and Mrs. John Beard, Washington; and four brothers, Howard, John, Harry, and Herbert Greenholtz, all of Westminster.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 PM at the Greenholtz home, the Rev. Willis R. Brenneman, pastor of the Salem Lutheran charge, officiated. Interment was at Krider’s Cemetery near Westminster. Pallbearers were Charles Seipp, Ivan Seipp, Jesse Myers, George Stoner, Paul Brown, and Charles Conaway. H. Bankert & Son funeral director.
