Charles F. Cheesman enlisted in Co. E 12th NJ Volunteers of Camden Co, NJ, 22 AUG 1862, as a Color Sergeant. He was mortally wounded 06 MAY 1864 in the Battle of the Wilderness, and died 07 MAY 1864 in a field hosp. His wife, Catherine, received widow's pension cert. # 28,431 on 07 JUN 1864. His surname is also found as Cheesman.12 NJ Inf.
