Former Delta County resident Juan Valentine Archuleta, Sr., 87, passed away on Sun., March 7, 2010 at his residence in Mosca, Colo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Fri., March 12, 2010 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta with burial will follow at Olathe Cemetery with military honors.

Juan Valentine Archuleta was born to Matias and Lucia (Garcia) Archuleta on Jan. 16, 1923 in Saguache, Colo. He spent his childhood and attended schools in Moffat. Juan resided in various areas including Delta County, Canon City and Craig, Colorado. Juan honorably served his country with the United States Army during World War II. Juan was stationed in several areas including the Philippines during the Philippine liberation and Japan.

On June 28, 1948, Juan married Ernistine Archuleta in San Pablo, Colo. They celebrated 40 years of marriage. Ernistine preceded Juan in death on Oct. 7, 1996 in Delta. On Nov. 10, 1999, Juan married Lois Widner at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta. The couple had been married for 10 years and raised a special little girl Danielle.

Juan owned and operated Landscapes Unlimited. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors whenever he had the chance. Juan also enjoyed taking care of his sheep.

Juan is survived by his wife Lois Archuleta of Mosca; sons Delbert (Jean) Archuleta of Clifton, Juan Matias (DeAva) Archuleta Jr. of Delta and Ralph Archuleta of Denver; daughters Cathy (Ralph) Snow of Grand Junction and Ramona (Charles) Keitel of San Acacia; brothers Earl (Rose) Archuleta of Durango and Claude (Vera) Archuleta of Longmont; sisters Ruth Rael of Questa, N.M. and Dora Atencio of Loveland as well as by 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Juan was preceded in death by his first wife Ernistine, son Dario Archuleta and three brothers and two sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Juan's memory to Lois Archuleta, P.O. Box 5, Mosca, CO 81146.
