The death occurred here early Saturday morning of A. E. (Alf) Capel, aged 69, a well known old-timer in Banff.

Born at Crewe, Cheshire, Mr. Capel came to Banff in 1910 and was employed by the Dominion Government until his retirement in 1954. He served overseas in World War I with the 82nd Regiment of Calgary, later transferring to the 1st Machine Guns. He was decorated at Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele with the Military Medal and Bar.

He is survived by his wife, Maude, and a brother Robert, both of Banff and by three brothers and three sisters in England.

Services were held in St. George's Anglican Church on Tuesday with Rev. T.F. Wright of Canmore officiating.

Enlisted as a Battery Sergeant-Major, Service number 161079 in the 82nd Canadian Infantry Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force in Calgary, Alberta on 29 Oct 1915. He served in the 1st Battalion Canadian Machine Gun Corps in France and was discharged from the service by reason of demobilization on 9 May 1919 in Toronto, Ontario
