William Herman Abbott

William Herman Abbott, age 81, formerly of Birmingham, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at his home.

He was born to William Roy Abbott and Ruth Reese Abbott on Aug. 31, 1923, in Cullman. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and former POW. He was retired from Merck & Co. after 30 years of service, and 50 years as a licensed pharmacist. He was a member of Somerville Road Church of Christ.

Mr. Abbott was preceded in death by his son, William Richard Abbott.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jewel Whisenant Abbott; son, Steve Abbott and his wife Kay Laxson Abbott of Decatur; grandsons, Clint Abbott of Tuscaloosa and Blake Abbott of Decatur; and sister, Betty Abbott Shaddix of Cullman.

The family will receive friends at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home in Decatur tonight, Nov. 18, 2004, from 6 to 9. Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Gary Patton officiating.
