EMERY TAYLOR, 77 RETIRED CHEMICAL ENGINEER

Emery Folger Taylor, 77, of Staunton, Va., a retired chemical engineer, died Friday in the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, Va.

Mr. Taylor was born in Somerville and graduated from Harvard University in 1932, where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees in chemical engineering and was a member of Tau Beta Pi and Alpha Chi Sigma.

He served in the US Army during World War II and was assigned to the chemical warfare laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He later served with the quartermaster general in Washington and was a retired lieutenant colonel in the Army reserve.

Mr. Taylor began working as a chemical engineer in 1941 for the E.I. DuPont Co. in Waynesboro, Va. He moved to Staunton in 1945 and retired from E.I. Dupont Co. in 1975.

Mr. Taylor was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Staunton, American Chemical Society, Staunton chapter of the Navy League, Staunton Forum Club, Harvard Club, Harvard Graduate Society, Staunton Men's Club, the Appalachian Trail Club, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Planetary Society. He was also in the biographical record in Who's Who in the South and Southwest in 1984 and 1985.

A graveside service will be held in the Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton, Va.
