Funeral services for Haywood Preston Thomas, who died at his home in Wellington last Tuesday from paralysis, were held from the First Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, conducted by the Masonic Lodge of Wellington with Rev. C.R. Joyner officiating.

The deceased had been a resident of Collingsworth county for many years coming here as one of the pioneers and giving the best years of his life in helping to build this county into a farmland of progressiveness and prosperity. He was known by practically every citizen of the county, and was held in high esteem.

Thomas was born December 13, 1858 in McMinn county, Tennessee. He was married to Miss Mary E. Long on December 20, 1888. To this union five children were born, who are: Mrs. W.A. Box, Mrs. O.E. Scalley, J.I. Thomas and H.F. Thomas of Wellington, and Mrs. R.H. Mooney of Borger. Besides his wife who lives in Wellington, Mr. Thomas is also survived by two brothers and one sister, who are: S.F. Thomas of Wanette, Ok; J.H. Thomas of Achille, OK; and Mrs. Della Roy of Wellington.

Mr. Thomas professed religion 43 years ago, becoming a member of the First Baptist church at Childress. He remained active in church work through the rest of his life. He had been a member of the Masonic Lodge for the past 18 years, and was also a member of the W.O.W.
