Mrs. J.I. (Ard) Thomas, who lived in the Wellington area more than 60 years, died in Olson Manor Nursing home at 1:45 p.m. Sunday, July 13. She had lived in Amarillo since 1968. A West Texan all her life, Mrs. Thomas was the former Emma L Winter, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. M. Winter. She was born in Fisher County May 31, 1898, and came here with them from Childress County in 1906.

She and Mr. Thomas were married Janttary 17, 1916, in Wellington, and spent their married life here. They farmed in the Cross Roads community from 1923 to 1946, then moved to their farm six miles south of town, where they lived until they retired from farming in 1962. Mr. Thomas died December 5, 1966.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and both she and her husband were active in their church and in the community.

Surviving Mrs. Thomas are three daughters, Mrs. Truman Parrish (Lila Lee) of Sudan, Mrs. C.L. Blandford (June) of Amarillo, and Mrs. Carroll W. Tolleson (Virginia) of McLean; one son, J.W. Thomas of San Francisco, Calif. She also reared a granddaughter, Joye Hudspeth.

Other survivors are three sisters, Mrs. Clemmie Hickman of Ft. Worth; Mrs. Darrell Nored of Seguin; and Mrs. Bob Bowen of Wellington; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Mrs. Ruby Hudspeth, preceded her in death.
