The following appeared in The Dallas Morning News, July 9, 1927:
"A.F. Pate, 92, a Confederate veteran, died Thursday while visiting his son, Dr. J. D. Pate, at Duncan, OK., according to information received here. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the home of his son, H.E. Pate, 4336 Metropolitan Avenue. Burial will be in the West Dallas Cemetery.
Surviving are five children, Dr. Pate of Duncan, Mr. Pate of Dallas, Mrs. Betty Stone and Mrs. J. D. Starr, both of Dallas and Mrs. Ida Joley, Ennis: nineteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren."
