Baldwin, Harry J. – age 88, of Halls, passed away Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital. Member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he was active as a Sunday school teacher and choir member. He narrated tapes for the blind for the local office on aging, and "55 Plus" as well as Christian Missions for the Blind. He performed in local dramas and was in many short plays at John T. O'Connor Center, as well as singing with the Shannondale Choral Group. He was past president of Knoxville Philatelic Society 1993-94. He was active in Boy Scouts and a member of Order of the Arrow. He was a graduate of Temple University in Philadelphia. Preceded in death by wife Alberta McWilliams Baldwin; first wife Mildred A. Baldwin; brother Joseph Baldwin; and stepson, Charles Edward McWilliams. Survivors: stepdaughter, Shirley Sanders; stepsons, Donald K. McWilliams, Robert R. McWilliams of Pittsburgh, Pa., Wayne C. McWilliams of Sykesville, Md., Gary A McWilliams of Craig, Alaska, Brian R. McWilliams; Brother, William C. Baldwin of Massachusetts; two nieces and 10 step-grandchildren. Funeral service 8 p.m. Monday, Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel with Rev. J. Stephen Misenheimer officiating. Interment 10 a.m. Tuesday, Lynnhurst Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday before the service at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 2300 Adair Dr.


Longtime community volunteer dies at 88
Harry J. Baldwin, who was honored by the city of Knoxville for his volunteer work, died Saturday. He was 88. Mr. Baldwin performed countless hours of volunteer work, including narrating books to cassette tapes for the blind and physically handicapped. For his work, he was one of 200 citizens honored during Knoxville's bicentennial celebration in 1997. A member of St. John's Lutheran Church, M. Baldwin also performed locally in several dramas and plays. He was also a member of the Channondale Choral Group.
