Connected with it in an official capacity for more than half a century James W. Miller, 77, died suddenly in Mt. Carmel Presbyterian church Sunday morning after the eleven o'clock service. He dropped dead as he was about to leave the church auditorium.
Last Christmas the Men of the Church gave a testimonial dinner in honor of Mr. Miller, celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of his services as an elder. Until recently he had been clerk of the session.
Mr. Miller had not been in sound health for some time and it was because of this that he resigned as clerk. He recognized that in his condition the end might come at any time.
A native of Augusta county, Mr. Miller had spent his entire life within its boundaries and was one of the best known and most highly esteemed farms and churchmen in the Spottswood section. His 77th birthday anniversary was July 3, last.
He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Phoebe Shultz, of the county.
Funeral service will be held at Mt. Carmel at 11 a.m. today with burial there in the family plot.
