STEELES TAVERN -- Mrs. Maggie Gleason Smith, 87, widow of Hansford B. Smith, died Saturday (July 18, 1970) at her home in Steeles Tavern following a long illness.

A native and lifelong resident of Augusta County, she was born Jan. 10, 1883, a daughter of Michael and Sallie (Bradley) Gleason. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are three sons, Russell B., of Raphine, Calvert G., of Avon, N.C. and Harold H. Smith of Staunton; three daughters, Mrs. Everette T. Graves of Raphine, Mrs. James W. Crawford of Steeles Tavern and Mrs. Richard F. Brown of Staunton; one brother, R. Franklin Koogler, Steeles Tavern; also eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday in Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. H. Earl Woodall.

Pallbearers will be the following nephews, grandsons and great grandsons: Russell B. Jr., Houston, Taylor and Ronald Smith, Thomas and Paul Koogler, Page Graves, Richard Brown, Scott and Mark Anderson.

The body is at the Fred Henry Funeral Home.

Friends will be received at the residence of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James W. Crawford in Steeles Tavern.

The family has requested that flowers be omitted.
