Mrs. Myrtle McSparin, 88, widow of John "Mac" McSparin, of Country Village Apartments, Metropolis, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 1997 at her home.
She and her husband operated the Metropolis Kroger Store from 1937 to 1955.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Josephine Gibbs Oshel; one sister, Violet Spears; and five brothers, Clyde, Clarence, Harl, Albert and Ernest Oshel.
Surviving are her son, Robert and wife, Vera McSparin of Fort Mill, S.C.; four grandchildren, Steve, Richard and Phillip McSparin and Martha Griffo; and several nieces and nephews, including Mesha Ervin, Val Oshel, Sue Bethel and Carolyn Bethel, all of Harrisburg.
Services were held Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the First Baptist Church, where she was a member. The Rev. Louis Brinker officiated. Burial was in Zion Cemetery in Pope County.
Miller Funeral Home of Metropolis was in charge of arrangements.
