Ferne A. Felty, 75, Port Charlotte and formerly of Arcadia, died Dec. 9, 2003. She was born Jan. 29, 1928, in Syner, Pa., and came to Arcadia in 1976 from Lebanon, Pa., before moving to Port Charlotte less than a year ago. She retired as a cafeteria worker for DeSoto County school system. She also was a certified nursing assistant. She was a member, choir member and organist for Pine Level United Methodist Church and organist for the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the Brownville Baptist Church, evening services. She organized the Pine Level United Methodist Children's Music Ministry and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary in Arcadia and Hospice of Southwest Florida. She was involved with the Fresh Air Fund and the Foster Care Exchange Program and was treasurer of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. Survivors include her husband, Elvin J. Sr.; a daughter, Debra Tate of Port Charlotte; sons Elvin J. Jr. of Lebanon, Pa., Gerald of Bradenton, Bruce and Dean, both of Port Charlotte; a sister, Carrie Wagner of Annville, Pa; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home in Arcadia. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Pine Level United Methodist Church in Arcadia. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
