William S. Hawpe passed away at his home near Greenville at six-thirty p.m. yesterday, aged sixty-nine years.
Mr. Hawpe, a life-long resident of the Greenville community, is survived by his widow, the former Miss Margaret Miller, and the following children: W. Erskine Hawpe, Steele's Tavern; Mrs. E. D. McClure, Spottswood; Mrs. E. Dudley Brooks, Staunton; Thomas G., Waynesboro; and Charles K., Fort Meade; seven grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. G. K. Foster, Grottoes.
Mr. Hawpe was for many years a faithful and esteemed member of Mt. Carmel Presbyterian church having served it as elder since 1916, and as deacon for several years previously to that date.
Funeral services will be conducted by the pastor, at Mt. Carmel church on Sunday at four p.m., DST., the elders of the church serving as active, and the deacons as honorary pallbearers.
