Son of Mrs. Rosalie Kirkpatrick who resided in Richmond, Virginia.

James served as a First Lieutenant & Pilot on B-17F #42-3437, 339th Bomber Squadron, 96th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Henrico County, Virginia prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on February 3, 1941, prior to the war, in Richmond, Virginia. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Driver and also as Single, without dependents.

B-17F #42-3437 took off from Station 138, Snetterton Heath, England on a bombing mission targeting the Hispano-Suisa complex near Paris, France. Over their target they were hit by enemy ground anti-aircraft flak and exploded. They crashed near Paris during the war.

James was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was first interred in the New Cemetery at Virofly, Paris and was later repatriated here on August 25, 1949.
