My great great grandfather married Mary Ellen Cloyd on December 20, 1860 in Cumberland Co., Kentucky. John was a school teacher before and after the Civil War. They later moved to Wayne Co., Iowa and then Nebraska.

John served as a captian with the 5th KY CAV and was a prisoner of war in North Carolina.
