Sergeant Nelson was a radio operator aboard U.S. Army Air Corps
B-24D Liberator #42-40420, serving with the 330th Combat Crew
Training Squadron.

He was killed when the bomber crashed on takeoff at Biggs Army Airfield, El Paso, Texas. Five other airmen also perished.
