Hoffman, Theodore. Residence Ingham Co, Mich. Enlisted in Company C, Michigan First Infantry, Oct. 25, 1861, at Dansville, Mich., for 3 years, age 18. Mustered Nov. 2, 1861. Discharged Oct. 1, 1862, for wounds recieved in action at Gaines Mill, Virginia, June 27, 1862.

According to family records, Theodore went by wagon train to California to bring back to Michigan his brother Cornelius' young son Arthur.
Later, Theodore was owner of the Hoffman Hardware in Dansville for twenty-four years before selling it to George W. May.
In 1890 Theodore, Rachel and their son Heman went to California by train where he visited his brother Samuel in Lassen County and toured the state extensively. He wrote back glowing and detailed accounts to his home town newspaper, the NEWS of Mason, Ingham, Michigan. Later, Theodore visited Washington, D..C. and the battle fields of the Civil War; attended a grand review of the G.A.R and wrote about this tour.
After Rachel died, Theodore married to (2) Mary E. Whipple.
Only a few months after his second marriage, Theodore had an accident with runaway horses, contracted tetanus and died.
