He worked in the advertising industry, selling everything from candy to vehicles. He married Virginia Snow in 1945. They adopted two daughters. She died from a massive stroke in Northern Michigan near their cottage on Torch Lake. Later Doyle remarried Jean Wilson and moved to California. He spent the last years of his life with a grandson.
