Michael McKeown, 49, of Zephyr Hills, Fla., and formerly of Hanover Township, died suddenly Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, after being struck by an automobile while riding his bike in Tampa, Fla. He was born in Wilkes-Barre on May 24, 1960, a son of the former Ann Harkins (Hungsinger) and the late Joseph McKeown. Residing in the Lee Park section of Hanover Township for most of his life, Michael was a graduate of Hanover Area High School, class of 1978. He served with the Battery B 109th Field Artillery National Guard in Nanticoke for the last 20 years, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Michael was an avid Washington Redskins and New York Yankees fan. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Surviving, along with his mother, Ann, are daughters, Kelly Rhodes of Wilkes-Barre, and Amie Osburn of Mountain Top; son, Shawn McKeown, Sugar Notch; grandchildren, Megan Hughes, Josh Rhodes, Kayla Rhodes, Madison Osburn and Morgan Osburn; sister, Rose Mary Telega, San Antonio, Fla.; brother, Joseph McKeown, Port Richey, Fla.; as well as several nieces and nephews. A Blessing Service for Michael will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Ashley, with the Rev. Thomas O'Malley officiating. Private interment will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pa. Family and friends may call on Saturday, from 5 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m.
