It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that our family announces the death of Anna Mae Anderson. She rose to heaven on Sunday May 18, 2002 at the age of 63. Anna Mae was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, daughter, day care provider, and true friend to all she met.
She is survived by husband Robert (Bob) Anderson of Enumclaw; three daughters and their families - Denise and David Cole of Redmond, WA, Gwen and Jim VanOrden of Pullman, WA, and Paula Jensen of Lakewood, CO. She will be mourned and so missed by her grandchildren - Devon, Brennan, and Katherine Cole; Danny and Emily VanOrden, and Leila Jensen. She was preceded in death by her parents Martin and Anna Lokovsek; siblings Elsie Richards, William Lokovsek, Charley Lokovsek, and Leo Lokovsek, and by grandchild Sara VanOrden.
Anna Mae (also known as Annie and Lokie) was a life long resident of Enumclaw, Washington. She grew up on a small farm with her parents and nine brothers and sisters. She attended Enumclaw High School and was in the graduating class of 1957. Class reunions were a big part of Lokie's life and she looked forward to planning and attending these gatherings of life long friends. She was especially looking forward to the Class of '57's 45th reunion scheduled for this October.
She married Robert Lee Anderson in 1958 and they made their life long home at 309 Rainier Avenue in Enumclaw. Following the birth of their three daughters, Anna Mae began watching children in their home. She ran an in-home daycare for over 40 years, up until the time of her death, and has been the beloved care provider to hundreds of children around the area. Caring for children brought great joy to Annie and she will be sadly missed by many families who cherished her love and devotion for their children.
Anna Mae was a devout Catholic and member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Enumclaw. She volunteered her loving services in many ways through out the years and was a member of the St. Charles Circle at Sacred Heart. Annie was a caring and loving soul who made it her life's work to put others' needs before her own.
Passions in her life were family, children, friends and fun. Family gatherings were a special occasion for Annie and she loved serving the traditional Slovenian foods of her heritage. She twice traveled with her mother and other family members to her Slovenian homeland and was a life-long member of the Slovenian's Woman's Union. Anna Mae enjoyed gardening and flowers. Her patio was a rainbow of colors in the spring with all the gorgeous flora and foliage she lovingly cared for. She had a special place in her heart for ladybugs. They adorn her home and she loved seeing them in her garden. Anna Mae loved getting outdoors and walking was one of her favorite ways to get exercise and fresh air. Many have seen Anna Mae and Bob walking down the streets of Enumclaw with children in tow, along with their three-legged dog "Lady" riding in a stroller. She loved country western music and learned to line dance later in life with her sister Mary. Forever young, Annie had a heart of pure gold and will always be remembered for her zest for life.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 24, 2002 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Enumclaw with Rev. James Northrop officiating. A prayer vigil and rosary were held Thursday evening, also at Sacred Heart. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Monsignor Farrelly Scholarship Fund ℅ Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1614 Farrelly St, Enumclaw, WA 98022.
