The body of Mary Ann Coyle, 80, and a resident of Meredith Township for 45 years, was found late Tuesday afternoon, after extensive searching, at the bottom of an abandoned dug well near her farm home. It is the belief of Dr. W.B. Newton, county coroner, that the death of the elderly wowman who had been in ill health several years, was a suicide, as no signs of foul play were evident.

Search for Mrs. Coyle, who had lived alone, commenced when her son, Francis, prominent Meredith resident was unable to find his Mother upon visiting the home early in the afternoon. After a hunt over the entire neighborhood, the body was finally discovered in the well through use of a mirror. The well as described by Dr. Newton is 45 feet deep, containing 12 or 15 inches of water, with a waist-high wall surrounding the top.

The elderly woman who lived more than half her life in Meredith township was a native of Ireland, having been born in County Cavan, October 5, 1865. She is survived by her son, and a sister, Rosa, who lives in Salina. Concordia Blade.

I write with uptmost respect for this lady who was known as "Mary Ann." A strong, tough lady from Ireland, who raised her son, Francis, on her own, as well as working her farm, on her own. Mary Ann, was my Step Dad, Bill Coyle's Grand Mother # 49974898 I believe, Mary Ann, being of the Catholic faith, would NOT have killed herself. I also believe, that someone pushed her to her death... in that " abandoned well. " How I would have loved to have known her. Sue Henry
