DeWitt Parker served as an ambulance driver during the Civil War. He returned to Wisconsin after the war and was to be married in Peshtigo, WI the day the whole area burned in one of the nation's largest fires. He and his bride, Nancy Sage, had to travel to upper Michigan to be married. DeWitt farmed for many years in Wisconsin where they had two daughters. Nancy and the youngest daughter died of typhoid. DeWitt came to the Snohomish, WA area about 1890 where he worked in area mills until he retired on his military pension and moved to Kelso.71 PARKER, D. C.
