Joe was born Oct. 10, 1917 in East Point, GA to the late Joseph H. and Vallie Williams Barnett. After graduating from Russell High School in 1935, during the great depression, he signed on with the Civilian Conservation Corps "CCC" and along with other young men – helped build Lake Rabun Beach and Recreation Area in North Georgia. He was employed by Genuine Parts Co, Atlanta, GA. from 1936 to 1951, he later owned and operated Trio Cleaners and Launder until retirement. Joe and his high school sweetheart, Lucile Virginia Bragg, were married in 1940. They made their home in East Point until 1997 when they moved to Christian City and then to Wesley Woods of Newnan-Peachtree City. A Veteran of World War II, he served as an instructor in Army Ordinance at Aberdeen Proving Ground Maryland. He was a member of the East point Masonic Lodge #288, an Adult Leader in Boy Scouts of America, the Gideon's International, A Founding Member of Hillcrest Cemetery Memorial Association, and a member of the East Point United Methodist Church for eighty years. Joe and Lucille were members of the Wany Bryan Airstream Club and traveled to all fifty states, Canada, and Mexico. Joe and Lucile had a wonderful life together. Their love and devotion to each other was a testimonial to family and friends. Joe had said of all the experiences in his long life, what he was most proud of and received the greatest joy and happiness from was the sixty seven wonderful years of marriage, love , travel and adventure with the one he called "beautiful".
