William Cline, Kay Co., Lawyer Taken In Death.

Newkirk, Jan. 25. - William S. Cline, 69, pioneer attorney who had practiced here since the opening of the Cherokee Strip, died at his home at 7:30 o'clock Saturday morning, after a nine months illness. Funeral services have not been arranged.

Mr. Cline was considered one of the outstanding citizens of Newkirk. He served as state senator from this district from 1915 to 1919 and from 1923 to 1927. He was a member of the board of directors of the Eastman National Bank in Newkirk and vice president of the First National Bank at Kaw City.

He became rich when oil wa struck on a farm owned in the Kay county extension of the Burbank field. He invested considerable money in farm land and was one of the largest land owners in Kay county. He was a deacon in the Christian church and an organizer and teacher of the courthouse Bible class.

Mr. Cline was a graduate of the Kansas University law school in 1892 and was a resident of Arkansas City in 1893 when he came to Newkirk. While living at Arkansas City he served as justice of the peace, an important position in those days before county courts were organized.

He is survived by his widow, Etta Cline, by six sons, Everett of Denver, Colo.; Earl, of Pavillion, Wyo.; W.H., Harold, Wilson and Warren of Newkirk, by two daughters, Laverne Cline of Kaw City and Lorena Zaring of Newkirk and by three sisters and a brother.

Funeral services will be held at the Christian church here with Rev. Charles M. McMillian in charge and burial will be made in the Newkirk cemetery by the Weber Funeral Home. Judge Claude Duval, a former law partner of the deceased is being asked to speak at the services. The Masonic lodge will have charge of the services at the cemetery.
