Lillian was born in Mississippi, her parents, Will and Willmerth Burt each drove a covered wagon to Old Greer County, Oklahoma Territory in 1898. The family lived west of Martha, Jackson County, Oklahoma until they moved to Mangum, Greer County, Oklahoma in 1908 where a nice two story home had been built for this large family. This house is still a landmark home at 802 Electra. The family then went to New Mexico where Lillian and Arthur were also able to file on free land. Their possessions went by train to Portales in late 1908 where an identical home was built near the town of Macy, New Mexico. After the land was proved in April 1912 a land swap was made with Jim Dillard who owned a 1/2 section in the Teacross Community, Harmon County, Oklahoma. Lillian was anxious to return as she had met Leslie Wooldridge and they married on February 21, 1919. Teacross, 8 miles north of Hollis was a thriving community in 1912.
