The Wellington Leader April 20, 1967

Mrs. F. O. Masten, who with her husband had a marked influence on the agriculture of this county over a long period, died at 9:05 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, at her home. Her death followed a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Masten came to Collingsworth County in 1918, and she and Mr. Masten made their home east of Wellington. She was the former Lily B. McCorkle.

In 1924 they won the Dallas Morning News-Texas A&M College honors for the highest cotton production, and the following year they won first place for the most valuable 5 acres of cotton in Texas.

In 1928 Mrs. Masten joined her husband to receive honors as Master Farmers of Texas, a program sponsored by The Progressive Farmer Magazine and A&M.

A member of the Church of Christ, Mrs. Masten was devoted to its work. Through her generosity she made possible many community projects by her contributions.

Surviving Mrs. Masten are her husband; three sisters, Mrs. Jess O'Hair of Elk City, OK; Mrs. E. L. Lewis of Quanah and Mrs. Molly Garrettson of Wellington. There are a number of nieces and nephews.
