The Wellington Leader September 2, 1965

Jack Lowry of Lutie, whose quiet leadership touched not only his own community, but the farm, school, civic and religious life of the county, died Wednesday, August 25 at 8:05 p.m. of a heart attack suffered when he was at work on one of his farms. He was 59.

When he was stricken, Mr. Lowry was at his farm north of Lutie. When he did not return home, the family became concerned and his younger son, Neal, went to see about him, to be followed a short time later by the older son, Joel. Efforts to revive him failed.

James W. Lowry, whom his friends never knew except as Jack, was born march 9, 1906 in Olney, OK, the youngest of seven sons of James N. and Mariah Stubblefield Lowry. He was only a year old when they brought the family to Lutie. By the time he was 10, both parents were dead and Jack Lowry was reared by his older brothers. He attended the Lutie schools.

On October 12, 1929, he was married to Miss Mittie Lee Young, also of the Lutie community.

The strength of his support and of his effective work was felt in many places. He encouraged his wife in her work as a teacher, first at Lutie then at Samnorwood, and he was one of those who helped with organization of the Samnorwood School. He encouraged many young people in their education. For a number of years he had served on the county board of education.

He was an active member of the Lutie Baptist Church and a charter member of the Samnorwood Lions Club.

Surviving Mr. Lowry are his wife; two sons and a daughter, Joel Lowry and Neal Lowry and Mrs. Paul Schaub of Lubbock. There are three grandchildren.

Other survivors are his six brothers: C.L. Lowry of Wellington, B.F. Lowry of Lubbock, Henry Lowry of Spokane, WA, H. L. Lowry of Hico, Earl Lowry of San Marcos, TX and Ham B. Lowry of San Marcos, CA.
