The Wellington Leader May 5, 1966

Joe A. Keller, who had lived in Collingsworth County 63 years, died in Thomas Nursing Home Thursday, April 28 at 6:30 p.m., a day after he had become critically ill. He was 87 years of age and retired from farming only about ten years ago.

Most of the years he spent here were in the Cross Roads community, where he was active in the affairs of that area. He served on the Cross Roads school board for many years. In the early years of this century, Mr. Keller was a freighter between Wellington and Memphis, in a period when most supplies had to be hauled overland from the railroad. For a number of years Mr. Keller added livestock to his farming enterprises, 7 miles northwest of Wellington.

Joseph Allen Keller was born Sept. 7, 1878, in Pourtsmouth Ohio, the son of G. J. and Martha Keller. He was still a small boy when the family moved to Texas. He came to Collingsworth County alone in 1903 from Johnson County, and later other members of his family followed.

He was married to Miss Rosa L. Richards March 12, 1904 in Wellington.

Surviving Mr. Keller are his wife and two sons, Earl Keller and Auburn Keller of Wellington. Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. R. S. Montague, and two brothers, Bob Keller of Wellington and Lewis Keller of Burleson. There are three grandchildren, Lt. Col. George Keller of Massachusetts, Billy J. Keller of Georgia and Richard Keller of Wellington.

One son, George Keller, preceded him in death.
