Lula Love Barnhill was born on the 6th day of April 1858 in Draytonville township of Union County South Carolina and the daughter of John William and Rachel (née Dunn) Barnhill. Lula was the only sister of John William, Jr. (1869-1934, Joseph Tolleson (1871-1917), John Rowland (1873-1893) and Charles Dunn (1877-1945).

Lula married Robert Forest Service, son of Robert and Mary (née Cameron) Service originally from Ballyeaston, Co. Antrim, Ireland; now living along London Creek in Draytonville, South Carolina. After their wedding, Robert and Lula moved to Goudeysville and had seven children: John Robert (1873-1894), James Roland (1874-1958), Mamie Estelle Service McCauley (1877-1962), Rachel Agnes Service Meeks (1877-1952), Lillian Service Taylor (1883-1980), Ruth Isabelle Service Muse (1886-1963) and Samuel Grover (1887-1978).

At the age 35 years, Lula became a widow when Robert died in 1893. With the help of her older children, Lula continued to live in the Goudeysville area; eventually moving in town to Gaffney. Lula died on July 3rd, 1928- living to the age of 70 years, 2 months and 27 days old. She is buried in Oakland Cemetery beside her husband, Robert, in the Service family plot near her parents and maternal grandparents, William & Rachel Dunn.
