FANNETTSBURG, Pa. -Retired Lt. Col. Morgan G. Knudsen Jr., 79, of Fannettsburg, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born June 21, 1922, in Johnsonburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Morgan G. and Blanche Flanner Knudsen Sr.

His wife, Pearl C. Knudsen, died in 1991.

He joined the U.S. Army in October 1942 and served in the European Theater during World War II. Among other tours of duty, he served at the Ordnance Ammunition Command, Joliet, Ill., as chief of the supply management branch for Special Weapons at Joliet Ammunition Headquarters; as assistant logistics officer, Joint U.S. Military Mission for Aid to Turkey; and at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, Pa., as chief of the Army Special Weapons Division and director of services. He retired from active duty in June 1967.

His decorations included the Bronze Star.

He was a Protestant.

He was a member of Elks Club Lodge 600 in Chambersburg, and the Masonic Order.

He is survived by one son, Derek M. Knudsen of Mechanicsburg; and his companion, Lee Arrowwood of Fannettsburg.

Military graveside services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 11 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

Arrangements are by Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, Chambersburg.
