Obituary:
At the St. Joseph hospital in Ft. Wayne, on last Saturday morning, occurred the death of Catherine, wife, of John Magner and the remains were brought to her late home in this place Saturday evening. The funeral was held Monday morning from the house and later services were conducted at the M. E. church by the pastor, Rev. O. S. Harrison, after which interment took place in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
The deceased had been a sufferer for several years from a tumor in the stomach and at the suggestion of her attending physician she went to the hospital several weeks ago to submit to an operation which was performed. For several days after the operation she was pronounced as getting along nicely..... A change took place and she grew worse and weaker...The best and most tender care was given her during her sickness by the attendants of the hospital and physicians but all to no avail.
She was the oldest daughter of the late Samuel Barto, who for years resided in this section and was born January 22nd, 1855 in Lycoming county, Pa., and died March 23rd 1901, thus having arrived at the age of 46 years, 2 months and 1 day. She came to Allen county with her parents when but a child and settle in Madison township. On Jan. 25th, 1874 she was united in marriage to John Magner, who survives her, and with whom she settled in Monroeville, where they have lived ever since. To this union was born four children, one of which a daughter, died in infancy, one son and two daughters with the husband are let to mourn with other relatives and friends, the departure of a kind and loving companion, mother and friend. She was a Christian in every sense of the word and lived and walked as such.
