A memorial service for Harry Stephan "Steve" Allen, 63, of New Albany, will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at Kraft Funeral Services, Charlestown Road Chapel, New Albany.
He died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services, New Albany.
He was born Jan. 15, 1947, in New Albany.
He was a graduate of New Albany High School and attended Indiana State University.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, who served in Vietnam, and received the Army Commendation Medal for his service.
He retired from Rohm and Haas Company in 2008, where he had been a chemical operator for some 35 years.
He was a member of Central Christian Church, VFW Post 1693, New Albany Lodge 39 F and AM, the Silver Toners singing group, and the Central Christian Church Choir.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Cindy Allen; daughter, Stephanie Castle and her husband, David, of Lebanon; granddaughter, Gillian Castle of Lebanon; mother, Blanche Allen of New Albany; sister, Benita Post and her husband, Gary, of Illinois; and brother, Steve Summers and his wife, Pam, of Floyds Knobs.
He was preceded in death by his father, John B. Allen; daughter, Rebecca Lynn Allen; and son, John C. Allen.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until time of service Thursday.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Central Christian Church, 1315 East Spring St., New Albany, 47150, or to the American Diabetes Association through its Web site, diabetes.org/how-to-give/.
