Francis Freeman White, whose father was Benjamin Finch White, was commissioned an Ensign on 11 July 1856 in the Army Pay Department [Royal Army Pay Corps], promoted to Lieutenant on 5 May 1854, and appointed an honourary Major on 11 July 1866. He was the husband of Agnes (Tracey) White.

Major White was killed in action while making a stand with Captain William Degacher's A Company, 1st Battalion, 24th Regiment of Foot at the Battle of Isandhlwana during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879.
