James ‘Jim' Ray Ward, 83, died January 26, 2010, in Sedona. Jim was born December 18, 1926 in Cogar, Okla., to Robert and Velma (May) Ward. Jim serviced our country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS New Jersey during WWII.

He was active in the VFW. He also worked as Trail Boss for the Grand Canyon Resort and at Jackson Hole Resort in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He also owned and operated a tavern in Prescott Valley.

Jim enjoyed livestock, especially horses and mules and playing a good card game. Jim loved to tell a good joke and people loved to have him tell it..

Jim is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Velma Ward and his brother, Winfred Ward. He is survived by his children, Tee Hinton Ward (Jennifer) of Oro Valley, Arizona, Becky Johnson (Tom) of Safford, Arizona, Mollie Ward of Safford, Arizona and Jamie Hathaway of Las Vegas, Nevada; his sisters Mary Lee Crowder of Bakersfield, California and Pauline Ledford of Walla Walla, Washington; his brother, Amos Ward of Tacoma, Washington; nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Graveside funeral services with military honors will be noon Friday, Feb. 12, 2010. at Mountain View Cemetery, 1051 Willow Creek Road, Prescott, AZ.
