According to his death announcment in the Feb 26, 1945 Edition of the El Paso Herald-Post, El Paso, Texas, R Del Richey was in the mercantile business at Abilene before coming to El Paso [abt 1892] as a member of the firm Kroger and Richey. It goes on to say that he was one of the early day contractors in El Paso, that he owned ranch interests in New Mexico, that he was elected tax collector in 1916 and served for 16 years, that he was President of the Texas Association of Tax Collectors, was active with the Masons and was Superintendent of Ascarate Park at the time of his death.
His parents were Alva Adison Richey born MS Apr 3, 1842 and Callie Word born abt 1851 (possibly MS). His parents were married in Goliad, Texas Apr 9, 1872. Believe his mother died in Goliad before 1880. His father died in El Paso 1902 and he is buried in the Masonic Section at Concordia Cemetery.
He had a younger brother, William Word Richey [aka Will], born May 7, 1876 in Goliad, TX and who died May 19, 1932 in Webb, Texas a result of a tragic accident on an oil rig. Will's remains were removed to Goliad for burial. [Cemetery Unknown]
His daughter Katherine M Richey Shorey is buried with him at Concordia and his daughter Margaret Alva Richey Buehler (herself in public service to El Paso for many years) is buried at Ft Bliss with her husband Ernest Walter Buehler.
