Warren Walter Waterman, 77, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, in his home after a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Atkins, by the Rev. David Rempfer. Burial: St. Stephens Cemetery, with graveside military rites. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are with Phillips Funeral Home, Vinton.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; a son, Jim Waterman and wife Loretta of Bartlesville, Okla.; two daughters, Kathy Jacobsen and husband Gorden cq of Atkins and Karen Timmerman and husband Tom of Maquoketa; seven grandchildren, Alexis Jacobsen, Bethany, Matthew and Tyler Waterman, Rachel, Alex and Erica Timmerman; three brothers, Keith Waterman and wife Evelyn and Don Waterman and wife Eunice, all of Atkins, and Robert Waterman and wife Judy of Wheaton, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Martha Wurch Waterman.

He was born Dec. 23, 1922, in Palo, Iowa, the son of Walter and Alice Kramer Waterman. Warren graduated from Belle Plaine High School with the class of 1940. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1943 until his discharge in 1946. On Nov. 28, 1953, Warren was united in marriage to Kathryn Haerther at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins.

Warren and his brother Keith owned and operated Waterman Oil Co. in Atkins until retiring in 1989. He was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, a 55-year member and past commander of A.H. Schueler Post 217 of the American Legion and a 17-year member of the Atkins Volunteer Fire Department. He also served on the board of the Atkins Senior Citizens.

A memorial fund has been established.
