Daughter of William Summer and Martha Evans (1840-aft 1900) of Georgia and second wife of James Monroe Ford (January 1842-December 4, 1912). Her husband James enlisted in Co. F, 25th Alabama Infantry during April of 1863 in Dalton, Georgia. He was shot in the jaw during the battle of New Hope Church, Georgia, May 25-June 4, 1864, but recovered and served for the duration of the war. After the death of his first wife, Celia Rebecca Mitchell (January 1, 1840-March 10, 1891), James married Lula Summer in 1898. She was drawing his widow's pension at the time of her death in 1966.
