John first married Mary Lazenby with whom he had five children: Alphonsa Josephus Jackson; Albert Leroy Jackson; Francis Asbury Jackson; Thomas Marcellus Jackson; and Catherine Elizabeth Jackson. With his second wife, Mary Armstrong, he had six children. The two not listed below are Francis Ophelia Jackson Herring and Narcissus Josephine Jackson Herring. He died in Camp Chase Prison Camp of smallpox.
