ROBERT WESLEY LINDSEY, 87, a prominent Fort Bend County attorney, was born April 22, 1912, in Washington County Pennsylvania. He was the son of Roy and Caroline Lindsey. His early high school days were spent in Swissvale, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Swissvale High School, he came to Texas in 1931. He graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, in 1938 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and was employed as a petroleum exploration geophysicist for six years. He graduated from the University of Texas Law School in 1948 with a J. D. degree and began the practice of law in Rosenberg, Texas. Together with his wife, Kathleen Joerger Lindsey, he was a member of the law firm of Joerger, Lindsey & Lindsey. He became an attorney for and a director of Fort Bend Federal Savings and Loan Association of Rosenberg in 1950 and became Chairman of the Board in 1963. He served as president of Fort Bend Federal Savings and Loan Association of Rosenberg for nine years and as Chairman of the Board from 1963. In 1987 he retired as president and remained as a director and Chairman of the Board. He also was Chairman of the Board of Fort Bend Holding Corp. He became an attorney for Rosenberg Bank and Trust in 1948 and served as director of said Bank from 1950 until 1987. He practiced law in Rosenberg, Texas since 1948 and along with his wife, Kathleen Joerger Lindsey, owned and operated the Rosenberg Abstract Company until 1979. He had previously served as a director of the Fort Bend Country Club and if Fort Bend Telephone Company. R. W. Lindsey was interested in farming and ranching and acquired land in Wharton, Fort Bend, Gonzales and Caldwell Counties. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church of Rosenberg, as well as the Rosenberg Lions Club, Rose-Rich Chamber of Commerce, Fort Bend Country Club, Sweetwater Country Club, South Texas Cotton & Grain Association, Fort Bend Bar Association, Texas Bar Association, a member of Alpha Chi Honorary Society and was a charter member and Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, as well as a Life Member of The Ex-Students' Association of the University of Texas and of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. He was honored with an Endowed Presidential Scholarship in honor of him and his wife at the University of Texas in Austin. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Joerger Lindsey, of Rosenberg, his brother, Lawrence David (Larry) Lindsey of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia and numerous nieces and nephews. A Rosary will be recited Friday, Feb 26, at 5 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1416 George St., Rosenberg, TX. Services will be Saturday, Feb. 27, at 10:00 a.m. at the church.
