As 1st/Lt. Basil Antonio was a navigator in the 376th BG that participated in the Ploesti raid "Operation Tidal Wave" August 1st 1943. One of the most daring raids of WW2. Coming in at tree top level the 44th BG destroy Romanian oil refineries. Piloted by lieutenant Iovine B24 DESERT LILLY had to abort due to mechanical difficulties and were unable to complete the mission. Lt. Colonel Antonio had a long and successful USAAF career.
